Creativity Is Evolving
I have previously talked about how jobs have changed because of technology. But people also change with technology. Or, more accurately, technology has transformed our ability to do things. Thirty years ago you could shoot a video. It would have probably required an expensive camera. If you needed any editing, you would have had to hire an editor to use complicated programs for relatively simple tasks like adding text and music .
Now, you can shoot a video on your camera and perform simple editing using basic Windows programs. Sure it’s not going to be a Hollywood caliber video, but more people can create simple content then before. Another way to think about it is, technology has created more opportunists for people to express themselves creatively. And its not just video cameras. People can use AI to write compelling stories and create images and animations that visually enhance their narratives .
Personally, The World Is Changing
On a more personal note, as a Cochlear Implant user, I have a lot of trouble talking on the phone. In fact there are jobs I would not do because it is hard to talk on the phone. For job interviews via phone, I’d need to either purchase a captioned telephone or use a service like Sprint CapTel, where a person would listen to the call and transcribe what the other person said. There was also voice to text transcription for a long time, but it was sketchy as heck!
Now, I can have AI transcribe my voice messages for free, eliminating the need for another person to listen to my calls . Is it perfect? No! However, I’ve had several phone interviews and used Apple’s live caption feature (thank you, Apple!) to have productive conversations . It has come a long way, and as time goes on, will become better. This is technology is opening doors for me, makes it less stressful to have a phone interview, as well as allowing job and communication skills to be central focus. I don’t even tell prospective employers I am deaf until later in the process because with technology it matters a lot less.
Opportunities Are Everywhere!
Technology is pushing human creativity, freeing our spirits and breaking down past limitations. It is expanding the definition of what is possible, and creating an avenue for a brighter future, if we let it. Yes, pitfalls exist—privacy concerns, ethical dilemmas, and rapid change. But within that uncertainty lies the promise of new beginnings, discoveries, and wonder.
